We cordially invite you to Jiří Vodička’s violin solo release ceremony at our gallery.

The distinguished young Czech violinist Jiří Vodička gained recognition while still a child, winning numerous competitions (2000—2002: Jan Kocian International Music Competition, Prague Junior Note, Beethoven Hradec, best participant in Václav Hudeček’s masterclasses; 2004: overall winner of the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in Weimar).

In 2008 he placed first among several hundred contestants in the European round of the prestigious Young Concert Artists competition in Leipzig, progressing to the finals in New York in 2009, in which he received second prize. At the tender age of 14, Jiří Vodička enrolled at a university — the Institute for Art Studies in Ostrava — where he attended the class of Prof. Zdeněk Gola. Since completing his studies in 2007, he has pursued a career as a concert soloist. When it comes to chamber music, he works with the leading Czech pianists Martin Kasík and Miroslav Sekera.

In 2002 he was named a soloist of the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava, with which he has appeared at concerts both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He has also regularly performed with other prominent orchestras (Prague Philharmonia, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Czech Chamber Orchestra, National Theatre Orchestra, Tübingen Chamber Orchestra) and renowned conductors (Jiří Bělohlávek, Jakub Hrůša, Tomáš Netopil, Heiko M. Förster, Gudni A. Emilsson, Ondřej Kukal, Stanislav Vavřínek, Petr Vronský, Andreas S. Weiser, etc.). Many of his concerts have been recorded by Czech Television and Czech Radio. Jiří Vodička is also regularly invited to major festivals (Prague Spring, Grand Festival of China, Hohenloher Kultursommer, Choriner Musiksommer, Musiktage Salzgitter) and has given concerts as a guest of the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by James Liu Peng.

In 2011, Jiří Vodička was invited by Gidon Kremer to appear at the prestigious Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus in Austria. In several concerts, he had the opportunity to perform alongside Nicolas Altstaedt, Michael Barenboim, Nicholas Daniel, Vilde Frang, Vladimir Mendelssohn and others artist of great renown. In addition to being a soloist, Jiří Vodička also devotes his talent to chamber music; since 2012 he has been a member of the Smetana Trio. He has taught at the Prague Conservatory since 2009.
