KEVISELIE / MEMORIES FROM LAPLAND
A unique exhibition of Norwegian artist and writer Hans Ragnar Mathisen, who primarily focuses on capturing the life and customs of the ancient Sami nation.
Hans Ragnar Mathisen was born in July 1945 in Norway. His family came from a small Sámi village Searvegieddi in Deanudat. He spent nine years of his childhood in hospitals with TB infection. He admits that his rather unusual, though not unique childhood may have been the reason why he became artist. He adds: “Being an artist is far from an ideal, it is, like the ancient noaiddit of my people, a heavy task, and a lonesome one, full of responsibilities but also spiritually very rewarding. “
