PRAGUE IN 100 WORDS
The exhibition of the winning texts and accompanying illustrations of the competition "Prague in 100 Words" will be on display in the gallery of Czech Centre Prague from November 7 to 26, 2016.
The competition "Prague in 100 words" is a competition for everyone who loves their city so much that they want to write about it, but in no more than 100 words. The content of the text can be anything – thoughts that are in man's mind in the subway, tiny details from the street. What does the city mean to its inhabitants? Which stories, memories, feelings, impressions are associated with places, events or people in Prague?
The jury, composed of Irena Dousková, Jakub Řehák and Vlastimil Venclík, selected from texts received the top 100 that will be published in pocket book size, as well as an e-book. From that hundred, the 12 best texts will be chosen by the jury and the texts will receive as a reward an illustration from top Czech illustrators. From these twelve the first three places will be chosen, the authors will receive prizes.
The competition was held from June 5 to September 15, 2016.
The exhibition with the same name presents the 12 best texts that were chosen by a jury, and illustrations will be added by famous Czech illustrators. At the opening of the exhibition the three winning texts will be announced and their authors will be awarded prizes.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
"Prague in 100 words" is a writing competition. Texts can have a maximum of 100 words and must be related somehow to Prague. Organizers plan to present the winning texts in the media and in public spaces. The project is organized by Mindspace Non-profit Ltd. in coordination with Plagio, the Chilean organization, which organized this competition for the first time.
The aim of the project is to get inhabitants of the city interested in cultural events and also to create more diverse vibrant public spaces. At the same time we gain some ideas of what people think about their city.
The competition was held in Santiago de Chile in 2001 for the first time. It was held twice in Budapest. Now the competition is being held simultaneously in the capitals of the Visegrad Group. In Prague it is represented by the project Praha město literatury, in Bratislava by Stará tržnica, in Warsaw by Respublica , and in Budapest by Mindspace.
