SPRING OF FREEDOM
The Czech Centre Prague is a partner of the Spring of Freedom exhibition, which takes place on the 4th floor of the Old Town Halll in Prague 1. FREE ENTRY.
The presentation of 87 architectural renderings of Czech Republic embassy in Washington, D.C. in the USA was raised in the framework of architectural competition by Foreign Ministry. It represents wide range of attitudes to contemporary architecture and the role of our country in the world.
Despite evident effort to manage the task in an original way, the majority of projects don’t attain a required level both in general arrangement and technical construction. Only four proposals underwent a second reselection process. Three of them were nominated for prize: the first prize won the project of atelier Chalupa architekti s.r.o., the second: Lennox architekti, s.r.o., and the third: Kuba & Pilař architekti, s.r.o.
The winning design captivated the jury by artistic conception of exterior and interior and poetic expression. The layout of rooms in the shape of „Y“ harmonizes with the landscape and imaginatively divides specific functional zones: working and ceremonial. Due to variable solution of facades and its well-considered use the architecture itself invites us for a friendly meeting and exchange of opinions. Newly designed embassy will be placed in a beautiful environment, on the silent site between the street Spring of Freedom and abundant vegetation of Rock Creek Park. This location will excel and capture the visitor by the beauty of green and the serenity of architecture.
Creating new architecture is like writing history. This architecture due to its friendliness and openness can support good relations between Czech Republic and foreign countries in the future.
