DISCUSSION WITH THE TRANSLATORS OF SCANDINAVIAN LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN

Did you enjoy Pipi Longstockings? If yes, come to the debate with the translators of Scandinavian children literature that is held during the Nordic Days.

Nordic children literature has always been popular in the Czech Republic. Especially Astrid Lindgren’s books and stories about the Moomins, a family of very special trolls, belong to one of the most widely read children literature. Translating books for children is unique in many aspects and for the translator it means a real challenge.

Czech most known translators of Nordic children literature will discuss their work and specific problems of translating children literature during the Nordic Days 2012 festival. Many acknowledged Czech translators accepted the invitation to the discussion: Jarka Vrbová, who has translated many books for children both from Norwegian and Swedish, Daniela Zounková, another translator from Norwegian, who translates the funny serie about Kurt by Erlend Loe, Helena Stiessová, who has translated the popular serie for girls that like horses by the Swedish writer Pia Hagmar, and František Fröhlich, who will represent the Danish literature. The discussion will be moderated by Barbora Grečnerová, the chief editor of the Nordic sections at the electronical literary magazine iLiteratura. There will also be space for scenic reading and questions from the audience.
